On March 27, our students from Brooklyn Amity School’s National Art Honor Society (NAHS) were fortunate to visit the studio of acclaimed New York City-based artist Glenn Goldberg (@glennandgoldberg) in Ozone Park, Brooklyn. This enriching experience offered our students a firsthand look into the life and creative process of a professional artist—one that left a lasting impact on all who attended.
Mr. Goldberg graciously welcomed our group into his studio, where he shared deeply personal stories about his journey—from being raised by his dedicated mother, to hitchhiking across North America, to overcoming challenges and ultimately pursuing his passion for art through formal education. His story was a powerful example of resilience, growth, and the transformative nature of the arts.
As our students explored the studio, they were surrounded by a vibrant collection of paintings and small sculptures. Mr. Goldberg spoke candidly about his philosophy, the influence of nature in his work, and his focus on symbolic, meditative imagery. His art, often featuring birds, repetitive motifs, and abstract forms, invites reflection and encourages a sense of calm and presence.
In addition to being a visual artist, Mr. Goldberg is also a published writer. One memorable moment occurred when a student received a signed copy of his book, Question Mark—a heartfelt reminder of the unique paths artists can take and the importance of staying true to one's vision.
We are deeply grateful to Mr. Goldberg for sharing his time, wisdom, and creative space with our students. Opportunities like this are invaluable in helping young artists find inspiration, develop their voice, and understand the broader context of their work within the artistic community.
At Brooklyn Amity School, we remain committed to providing meaningful experiences that enrich our students' learning and growth. This studio visit was a perfect reflection of that mission.
